The Atlantic Hotel has announced that Head Sommelier Alexandru Dan has been named number 48 in Harpers Top 50 Sommeliers 2025.

This annual listing celebrates the best sommeliers in the UK restaurant world, shining a spotlight on the individuals who set the benchmark for wine service, education, and innovation.

In its yearly edition, Harpers Top 50 Sommeliers recognises more than just outstanding wine lists. Judging takes into account innovation, inventiveness, communication, leadership, and vision, as well as a nominee’s ability to inspire and shape the broader wine and spirit world. This year’s results reflect the sheer quality and diversity of sommeliers across the UK.

With over 20 years of experience, Alexandru (pictured) brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and expertise to his role at The Atlantic Hotel. Under his stewardship, the hotel’s wine programme has earned widespread acclaim, including the award of two California Wine Stars from the California Wine Institute in recognition of its outstanding showcase of Californian wines. Alexandru’s commitment extends beyond service; he continues to mentor and educate the next generation of wine professionals, ensuring his influence resonates throughout the industry.

Patrick Burke, Owner and Managing Director of The Atlantic Hotel, commented: “We are absolutely delighted that Alexandru has been recognised in Harpers Top 50 Sommeliers 2025. His deep knowledge, infectious passion, and unwavering dedication to his craft shine through in everything he does. This recognition is richly deserved, and we are proud to see him celebrated among the very best in the UK.”

Alexandru Dan added: “It is an honour to be recognised among Harpers Top 50 Sommeliers 2025. I would like to thank Champagne Laurent-Perrier for their generous support in making this celebration possible. This recognition is not only a personal milestone but also a reflection of the wonderful team and inspiring environment I am privileged to be part of at The Atlantic Hotel.”
