This October, Alex Black will run almost double the distance that other participants of the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon will cover, raising money for the charity that supports adults with learning disabilities.
On 5th October Alex (pictured), who is Les Amis Facilities Manager, will start his Miles 4 Smiles challenge with thousands of others by running the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, but once he crosses the finish line at the Weighbridge, he’ll carry on with a route that’ll pass all Les Amis’ residential homes until his race finishes after 50 miles with a lap of the running track at FB Fields.
The charity is celebrating its 50th anniversary and joining Alex and walking, running or wheeling on some of the 50-mile ultramarathon route will be Les Amis staff and service users.
Alex Black, who will be running the Jersey Marathon with the number 50, said: “I see the difference we make every day, and now, I want to do more. That’s why I’m running 50 miles. To push my limits. Les Amis isn’t just a charity. It’s a family. It’s about giving people the chance to live with independence, with purpose and with joy. The last 50 years of Les Amis’ existence has been a journey far more turbulent than the terrain on the 50-mile course.
“The success is owed to its community who have invested so much effort into developing true meaning behind inclusion and empowerment values. Completing the 50 miles is by comparison a very small gesture, but hopefully one that inspires and helps raise funds so that Les Amis can continue supporting beyond another 50 years.”
