More than £15,000 has been raised for Dementia Jersey through a relay swim that saw swimmers tackle the waters from Jersey to France.
Held on the first weekend of August, the 14-mile charity swim event – which was sponsored by Kroll and Dickinson Gleeson– saw a number of local and visiting open-water swimmers set off from La Coupe in Jersey to Carteret.
The non-wetsuit category was won this year by Nathalie Pohl and Adam Walker, who completed the course in 6 hours and 57 minutes. The wetsuit category was won by the JF Challengers, who finished in a time of 8 hours and 4 minutes.
The Jersey to France incarnation of this event is now in its fourth year, and this year’s fundraising means that a grand total of more than £50,000 has now been raised since the event was first launched.
Event organiser Simon O’Donoghue said: “The growth of this event, from a small idea to a world-class swimming challenge, has been nothing short of incredible. It’s amazing to see the support from so many different communities, and the funds raised will make a real difference in the fight against dementia here in Jersey.”
