The organisers of the Skipton Swimarathon are encouraging more businesses to sign up to swim in Guernsey’s largest annual fundraiser.
The Skipton Swimarathon is jointly organised by the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Round Table and will take place between Wednesday 8 and Sunday 12th October at Beau Sejour.
Whilst regular annual participants tend to be groups of family and friends, more recently a number of local businesses have become involved and entered a team.
John Stuart, Chair of the Skipton Swimarathon organising committee said: “Many local organisations are now registering to take part, realising that a fun, hour-long swim is a great way to not only encourage healthy activity and team-bonding, but also helps raise funds for a great local cause. Last year we had several companies ask their staff to sponsor swimmers, and then kindly matched that amount from the business in order to double the donation to the charity. It’s a win-win for everyone and I know many tend to swim, then go out for a Tennerfest meal afterwards – what a great night out!”
Heather Langlois is at the heart of the day to day running of this year’s main beneficiary St John LBG. The charity is dedicated to helping islanders through the provision of first aid treatment, education and training. However, they rely solely on donations and support to help them save islanders’ lives.
Heather is thrilled with the support shown by the Guernsey public and is encouraging as many people as possible to join in the fun: “On behalf of everyone at St John, we would like to thank each and every one of you who is donating, volunteering, organising and attending the Skipton Swimarathon. Everyone at St John is truly grateful.”
