Have a ‘genuine’ homemade Christmas

Traders in Jersey who specialise in home-grown and home-created produce are hoping their wares are on your Christmas list.

The first Genuine Jersey ‘Spirit of Christmas’ market in the Royal Square opens this afternoon (Thursday), with a promise of a range of candlelit stalls packed with crafts, food and drink.

The markets will be taking place over two weekends, the first from today until Sunday, and again at the same time next weekend (14th to 17th December).

They’ve been organised by the Genuine Jersey Products Association as part of the Parish of St Helier’s annual Fete de Noue celebrations.

John Garton, CEO of Genuine Jersey, said: “For many of our members, Christmas is the most important time of year to showcase their locally produced work. With more than 20 Genuine Jersey members taking part everybody who attends this event will be able to choose from the widest range of Genuine Jersey goods available anywhere in the island this Christmas.”

Products will include ceramics, jewellery, soft toys, wooden artefacts, art, photography, candles, wreaths and Christmas decorations.

There’ll also be food trucks and local producers La Robeline will be selling mulled cider and homemade Saucisse alongside its Normandy style drinks. Others include Gemma Bartlett from Wild Health, and Emily Walker in her Pink Panda van which specialises in Vietnamese, Korean, and Malaysian street food.

The markets are being decorated by Genuine Jersey member, Wilde Thyme. Clara Barthorp from the floral design studio will be decorating the site with lanterns, candles and locally sourced foliage. There’ll also be brass bands and choirs performing over the weekend.

The markets will be open between:

  • 10am to 8pm on Thursday 7th and 14th (late night shopping in town)
  • 10am to 7pm on Friday 8th and 15th and Saturday 9th and 16th
  • 10am to 6pm on Sunday 10th and 17th December 2017
