Butterfield recently welcomed Dame Laura Davies, widely regarded as one of the greatest female golfers in history, to Jersey as part of its annual client golf event.
Dame Laura Davies helped inspire the next generation of golfers by hosting two special masterclass clinics for local junior golfers.
The first masterclass took place with La Moye Primary School, where 20 interested and enthusiastic students were introduced to the game of golf during a one hour session on the driving range with Dame Laura Davies.
Facilitated by Jersey Sport, the students received personal coaching and had the opportunity to learn more about the game, ask questions and to hear Dame Laura’s advice to young athletes.
The second session brought together 20 aspiring junior golfers from La Moye Golf Club, Royal Jersey Golf Club, and the Hampshire Jersey Junior Squad. Led by Dame Laura Davies, and facilitated by local PGA Fellow Professional Alex Mollin together with the La Moye Professional Coaching team, this session focused on short-game technique. The one-hour clinic featured expert demonstrations, interactive drills and challenges designed to sharpen short game skills. There was also the opportunity to hear Dame Laura talk about her experiences and career highlights, in addition to asking questions.
Commenting on the event, Alex Mollin said: “The masterclass with Dame Laura Davies was a fantastic opportunity for some of the islands best young players to receive coaching from such an iconic figure in the golf world. They all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were so delighted by the time that she spent with each of them, asking questions about their game and offering advice. I am extremely grateful for the generosity of Butterfield in offering this session and know how much that we all appreciated it.”
Michelle Le Blond, Butterfield’s Branch Manager for Jersey, said: “We were delighted to use our annual client event to help create once-in-a-lifetime moments for younger members of our community. Dame Laura Davies is one of golf’s all-time greats and an inspiration to many, so it was fantastic to see how she energised those students who took part and we hope it is an experience that stays with them.”
