Chamber and IoD team up with Mind Jersey

The Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the Institute of Directors are working with Mind Jersey to address workplace mental health issues.

The initiative, which offers members of both organisations 50% off the cost of all training with Mind Jersey, follows the IoD Leadership Lens survey, supported by Chamber, which gauged business confidence in the future of Jersey’s economy.

The IoD recently held a debate to further delve into some of the issues facing the island and how it can collectively move forward. CEO, Murray Norton represented Chamber on the panel. They are acutely aware of the link between economic confidence and business and individual well-being, with research showing that when economic confidence is low individuals may feel more vulnerable and anxious about their prospects. That can increase the likelihood of mental health issues and suicidal thoughts.

Working with Mind Jersey, and supported by Public Health Jersey; IoD and Chamber of Commerce members are being offered a 50% discount on all training with Mind Jersey. This includes Suicide Awareness, Mental Health Awareness and their First Aid for Mental Health accredited courses.

Mind Jersey is also inviting all HR Managers who are members of the IoD or whose employer is a member of the Chamber of Commerce to a free mental health awareness session in July.

Lee Madden, President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, said: “Sadly, the business community and me personally have been left reeling over the loss of colleagues; we recognise that as business leaders we each have a responsibility for the well-being of our colleagues and employees. By investing in training and raising awareness, we hope to ensure that all members are equipped to recognise and respond to mental health concerns or suicidal thoughts. We are grateful to Mind Jersey for offering this service.”

Alex Ruddy (main picture), Chair of IoD Jersey, noted: “We are grateful to Mind Jersey for collaborating with us following the closure of Jersey Recovery College who previously worked with IoD on our suicide prevention training strategy. We are delighted that our colleagues at Chamber are once again working closely with us to address issues of concern to our business community.

“We hope that members from both organisations avail themselves of the training.”
