Aurigny named best short haul airline in British Isles

Guernsey’s government-owned airline Aurigny has been ranked one of the world’s best short-haul airlines by readers of the Daily Telegraph.

It finished third, behind Swiss and Icelandair, at the 2017 Telegraph Travel Awards based on the views of 90,000 people, and was the top British Isles-based carrier.

It’s an improvement on its fourth place in last year’s awards.

The news comes as Aurigny changes its working arrangements at Gatwick Airport, with the return of its own staff – rather than relying on a third party firm – in an effort to improve customer service.

Aurigny CEO Mark Darby said: “This is a really positive way to end 2017, in what has been a very busy year for us. These rankings are based on the views and opinions of the people who matter most, our travelling public, so third place is a great achievement and it’s great to see we came out on top of all the British airlines.”

Commercial Director Malcolm Coupar hopes the listing in the Telegraph Travel Awards will be good for business: “We have been working hard this year to improve our customer service and communication and this will continue to be a priority next year. We have also been trying our best to promote the islands and what they have to offer, and this accolade can only help to raise the profile of Aurigny and the Bailiwick as a whole.”
