Heartbeat, the charity dedicated to supporting those diagnosed with congenital and cardiovascular disease, has announced the appointment of Anna Malcolm as Heartbeat Guernsey Liaison.
This new role marks a significant step in strengthening Heartbeat’s presence in Guernsey, enabling the creation of Guernsey Friends of Heartbeat to raise more
awareness of the vital services it offers.
Tina Tolley, Head of Business and Donor Development, has been visiting Guernsey for many years. In that time, she has made numerous friends, including businesses, families and individuals, who support the charity and spread the word of the work it does. Tina said: “We are thrilled to welcome Anna to the Heartbeat team. Her passion, experience and strong local connections will be invaluable in helping Heartbeat reach more families who may need support.”
Guernsey families of patients having surgery at the Wessex Cardiac Unit at University Hospital Southampton, can stay at Heartbeat House, a 24 bedroom ‘home from home’, only 3 minutes’ walk from the hospital. Families stay free of charge, apart from a key fee on check-in. Heartbeat House, celebrating 30 years this year, provides a welcoming place to relax while their loved ones are undergoing critical cardiac care.
Anna (pictured) brings a wealth of experience to the role, having lived in Guernsey for the past 24 years. She previously held a marketing role at Investec and first met Tina while working there. In her new role, Anna will work closely with the Guernsey community to promote the charity’s mission, raise vital funds, and ensure that more islanders are aware of the support available to them.
Anna said: “I first met Tina three years ago and I’m thrilled to be able to support Heartbeat with the establishment of Guernsey Friends of Heartbeat. I’ve already
met many families who’ve stayed in the house, which not only has great facilities but also provides the pastoral care for those going through a stressful and emotional time.”
