Bright Beginnings is aspiring to raise awareness about the significance of positive parental mental health, by partnering with a talented local artist to create a  tea towel that weaves together meaningful symbols to highlight the important message.

Ellie Daisy Atkinson, a local artist, has designed the tea towel in time for Christmas for people to purchase for their loved ones. The tea towel features images of Guernsey’s Hanois Lighthouse and native flora and fauna, to convey the gratitude and hope felt by families who have used their ‘Beyond Blue’ service.

The designs include:

  • Ellie Daisy Atkinson, a local artist, has designed the tea towel

Sun: a nod to Bright Beginnings’ logo, symbolising warmth, strength, positivity, energy, and life

  • Hanois Lighthouse: representing a guiding light during challenging times, offering hope and direction
  • Waves: a reflection of life’s ebb and flow, embodying the dependable support and emotional resilience families need
  • Song Thrush: a beloved local bird symbolising joy, inner peace, and mindfulness
  • Common Blue Butterflies: representing partnership, balance, and mutual support
  • Bluebells: a heartfelt symbol of gratitude and enduring love
  • Forget-me-nots: representing remembrance and connection
  • Snowdrops: the first bloom of spring, promising renewal and brighter days ahead
  • Daffodils: a vibrant emblem of new beginnings and rebirth
  • Verbena: symbolises healing and protection
  • Iris: a powerful representation of hope, wisdom, trust, and courage

The ‘Beyond Blue’ service, which focuses on parental mental health and wellbeing, includes antenatal and perinatal support delivered through a range of classes, groups, 1:1 sessions and counselling, ensuring that parents and carers are able to create strong relationships with their children, based on positive attachment and trust.

Funds raised by purchasing the tea towel will help Bright Beginnings continue its work to support families and promote awareness of the importance of positive parental mental health during the first 1001 critical days of a child’s life (conception – age 2) and beyond.

Lisa Blondel (pictured), CEO at Bright Beginnings, commented: “We are extremely grateful to Ellie for both her beautiful design and generous donation of time, which has ensured that a minimum of 50% of proceeds will go directly to supporting local families to give their children the best start in life.”

Ellie Atkinson, designer, said: “It has been an honour to design tea towels for Bright Beginnings to raise awareness about the importance of positive parental mental health in Guernsey, and to raise much-needed funds to help them continue their very important work supporting our community.”
