Ports of Jersey has announced the appointment of Inez Bartolo as Airport Director, to succeed current post holder Stephen Driscoll, who, having worked at Jersey Airport for over 44 years, retires at the end of this year.

Mrs Bartolo who will assume responsibility for all aerodrome operations in early December 2018, joins Ports of Jersey having worked for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for over 27 years. Announcing the appointment, Group CEO for Ports of Jersey, Doug Bannister, said: “Inez is one of the CAA’s most senior and experienced leaders, having worked alongside the majority of UK aerodromes, including Jersey and comes to us with a wealth of experience. Given the focus on regulatory matters for Ports of Jersey she will be a great asset to the team and we look forward to her joining us”.

In response, Mrs Bartolo said: “As an airport regulator I have already established a strong relationship with Jersey Airport. I am therefore, delighted to be joining the team at Ports of Jersey and very much look forward to the future and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for the organisation”.

Stephen Driscoll first joined Jersey Airport in 1974 as an electrician and over the years worked his way up through the organisation to become Head of Engineering. As a result of the integration of Airport and Harbours in 2012 he was appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer assuming overall responsibility for both Airport and Harbours operational activities. He was appointed to the role of Airport Director in 2015 with specific lead on aviation security and safety.

Commenting on Mr Driscoll’s retirement, Mr Bannister adds: “One of Stephen’s objectives during this time as Chief Operating Officer was to strengthen our operational team and build a succession plan. This has successfully been delivered at the Harbours, Engineering and in the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Service, with Air Traffic Control and Group Systems and Technical Services currently underway. While we would have liked a few more years of his leadership, knowledge and experience we now have a stronger team as a result of his efforts and we wish him a wonderful retirement”.
