Tree & Woodcraft Fayre

The 2024 Guernsey Trees for Life, Tree & Woodcraft Fayre is being held on Saturday, 5th October, from 1000 – 1500, in the grounds of Government House, kindly hosted by the Charity’s Patron, His Excellency Richard Cripwell, the Lieutenant Governor.

The Fayre is a free event, open to all and is a celebration of trees, woodland and forests and how they support and benefit people and the environment. This will also include a focus on arts, crafts & activities.

Colin Dodd, Guernsey Trees for Life (GTFL) Committee said: “We’re privileged to be holding our Tree & Woodcraft Fayre in the grounds of Government House, with the kind permission of His Excellency. It is the perfect setting for the event with an impressive array of native and non-native trees in the open grounds and views over St Peter Port.

“There’ll be entertainment for all ages to include basket weavers, tent peg makers, art workshops and the promise of performance arts and music. We’re also holding a professional tree climber’s competition, where our local tree climbers & arborists can show off their impressive climbing skills. Members of the public can try their hand at climbing with Outdoor Guernsey’s climbing tower too and for smaller children we’ve got a big wood chip pile for them to run up.

“This will be a community event to appeal to all ages with commercial involvement limited to a few relevant businesses with food and drink available to buy at the event.”

The Tree and Woodcraft Fayre is also showcasing a variety of other local organisations who support nature and trees, including La Societe Guernesiaise, National Trust of Guernsey, the Pollinator Project & the Nature Commission.

Colin said: “GTFL always benefits greatly from the support of regular volunteers who come out in force to help with the work of the Charity whether for events like this or tree planting and we would like to thank those individuals for their continued support, some of whom come from corporates as part of their corporate and social responsibility contribution.

“We’re really excited about this year’s Fayre and are look forward to seeing lots of people there. If anyone has something to showcase of a tree/woodland nature and wishes to exhibit at the Fayre please let us know quickly! We’re also encouraging active or alternative travel to the event as car parking space is limited.”
