Condor Ferries has become part of the Brittany Ferries’ group following the French ferry operator’s acquisition of a majority stake in the company.

Approval from the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority for the increase in ownership to 51% was received today. The change will also see Brittany Ferries assume operational responsibility for Condor with immediate effect.

Christophe Mathieu (pictured), CEO of Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries, said: “Ultimately, this is a good news story for the Channel Islands as it will result in a better service for Condor’s passengers.

“Brittany Ferries possesses the experience, expertise, and scale, combined with deep knowledge of the transport sector and customer service over five decades, to implement best practices effectively.”

Condor was originally acquired in November 2019 by a consortium comprising Brittany Ferries and the London-based Columbia Threadneedle European Sustainable Infrastructure Fund. Brittany Ferries now own 51%, with Columbia Threadneedle retaining a minority shareholding.

Mr Mathieu added: “I want to emphasise that our commitment to Condor and the Islands is absolute and enduring. This is not a short-term arrangement; rather, Brittany Ferries’ philosophy will be integrated into passenger and freight management as part of a long-term strategy.”
