Channel Islands Pride 2024
Channel Islands Pride is back in Guernsey this year on Saturday 7th September. As Guernsey’s biggest free community event, event coordinators Liberate invites everyone to attend.
Events are happening all weekend, starting on Friday 6 September with Infamous Drag Bingo, followed by the main CI Pride events on Saturday 7th September including Candie Gardens, the Pride Parade, entertainment in Market Square, and the Official CI Pride Afterparty at Canvas. To round off the weekend on Sunday 8th September there is a relaxed Sundowner BBQ at The Peninsula.
There will be iconic artists bringing in camp pop bangers, dancefloor fillers and LGBTQ+ positivity too. As well as Channel Islander talent being spotlighted this year.
“We are heralding huge LGBTQ+ artists and allies with the UK’s best Madonna tribute act Melissa Totten, Russell Small from the Freemasons headlining the afterparty at Canvas along with Gaydio DJ Craig Law, and our headline artist on our main stage is Tia Kofi, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World. And we still have more acts to confirm!
“We’ll also be showcasing some of the best local and UK Drag performers with Mercedes Bends, Paige Three, Miss Leigh Ding, and Guernsey’s very own Monroe,” said Liberate CEO and CI Pride Director, Ellie Jones. “Expect fabulous Drag, electrifying performances and dazzling Lip Syncs. And, as something different, the Jersey Ballet or Ballet D’Jerri will also be performing in Guernsey for the first time.”
CI Pride is a family-friendly event with plenty of free entertainment for all to enjoy. In the HSBC-sponsored Family Zone, you’ll find music, crafts, art, virtual reality games, story telling, as well as festival hair, henna and glitter stations, photo booths and all other manner of activities, all for free.
Candida Collar, HSBC Head of Wealth and Personal Banking in Guernsey said: “We are very proud to be sponsoring the Channel Island Pride event and Family Zone once again this year. ‘We value difference’ is one of our four global values. We were founded on the strength of different experiences, attributes and voices. It’s great to celebrate with the wider community how together we can champion inclusivity.
“We’ll also have performances from Aida H Dee of Drag Queen Story Hour UK, Guernsey Bubbles and the Cheshire Performing Arts Pride Choir.”
The silent disco will be back and there will be an ‘alternative’ stage near the Golden Lion for spoken word, music, cabaret and poetry.
