Around 100 leaders from of sectors including the Financial Services, Government and Public Sector attended the IoD Jersey’s ‘AI Powered Productivity, Strategising for Success’ event sponsored by Deloitte in Jersey.
Deloitte Partner Peeyush Aggarwal, engaged the audience with his speech on ‘Efficiency is good, innovation and growth are better.’ In his speech, he told the audience: “AI adoption must come from the top and focus on business value delivery” and that the “the winners are those who evolve and change fast.”
Tony Moretta, CEO at Digital Jersey asked Peeyush ‘How could Jersey excel with AI?’ and Peeyush responded: “Jersey could use its agility to make change happen faster” and that “in order to thrive, businesses must flex their models faster.”
Peeyush also said: “AI has a potential to have a 5% to 15% impact on cost/income in Financial services businesses based on size, scale and operation of the business”, that “job displacements and uplift will be more common”, and that “talent remains a big issue for scaling adoption.”
Rory Steel, Head of Academy at Digital Jersey presented Digital Jersey’s research findings in his Talent and Upskilling session, showing that 40% of the working age population in Jersey report that they wouldn’t benefit from any form of career or job-related training, and that only 10% of working age islanders report that they would benefit from computer or digital skills training in relation to their career/job.
Another interesting finding from the Talent and Upskilling breakout session was how few people are focusing on upskilling/training or development. 86% of people spend less than 5hrs a month on digital skills training in Jersey, with a large proportion of that doing none. Rory Steel said: “Every role, from entry-level to executive, deserves access to training to grow. Encourage your employees to block out training time in their diaries and build a future-ready workforce.”
The audience also received an update on the Legal and Regulatory considerations/How to Adopt AI using a trustworthy AI Adoption Framework from Emma German, Advocate at Monoceros Law in Jersey. The audience were presented with practical user cases of how Gen AI can supercharge productivity and key takeaways on AI adoption strategies, presented by Simeon Moss, Consulting Director and Emma Shirreffs, Consulting Manager.
