Insurance Corporation has announced the launch of its 2024 Health and Social Care Bursary.

For over 30 years, States of Guernsey staff working in Health and Social Care (HSC) staff have been invited to submit their innovative ideas to improve health or social care provision in the Bailiwick.

The bursary celebrates and supports the most beneficial projects, offering £3,000 as the top prize and £1,500 as the runner-up prize to help bring these ideas to fruition and enhance the island’s health and social care.

The bursary has seen a wide array of entries over the years, addressing diverse topics such as alcohol abuse, bereavement, falls among the elderly, eating disorders, memory, mental health, diabetes and midwifery. In 2023 the top prize of £3,000 went to Ruby Harrild-Dunbar whose project uses resources and games to meet the Sexual Health needs of young people who may not ordinarily engage in mainstream services through educative work, relationship building and clinical work around contraception and sexually transmitted infections. It sets out to prevent harmful sexual behaviours and promote sexual wellbeing.

Mark Marshall (pitured), Managing Director of Insurance Corporation, expressed his admiration for the program: “For 30 years, we have been astounded and amazed by the quality and diversity of the projects submitted for the bursary. The knowledge and talent within HSC are incredible, and it’s exciting to see the innovative ideas that frontline workers bring forward.

“The application process is thrilling due to its unlimited scope, making the judging process extremely challenging.”

Michelle Steele, HR & PR Executive at Insurance Corporation, commented: “Insurance Corporation is very proud to have made this contribution to our local community for so long. We remain extremely impressed by the entries and look forward to seeing the new ideas each year. The highlight for us is seeing these projects come to life and making a difference in the Bailiwick and internationally, thanks to our Bursary.”
