Resolution IT has awarded the Jersey winners of its third annual design challenge; Transport of the Future.

At the start of July, Resolution IT finished judging the Jersey entries to the annual Design Challenge, announcing the winners at a prize giving at FCJ School.

The brief for the challenge this year was to invent a futuristic form of transport, designed to travel through land, air or sea. With more than 500 entries submitted from across the Channel Islands, the judges certainly had their work cut out for them in deciding their six winners.

The competition was hosted in partnership with Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation (PPBF) and sponsored by PlainSail.

PlainSail donated an Xbox Series S games console and Smart TV to PPBF, for use in Frankie’s Den, one of the charity’s Southampton apartments. These apartments are available for families to stay in when their children are receiving specialist off-island care, providing a safe and comfortable environment for families to be together.

PlainSail also contributed to the custom LEGO artwork that will be displayed in Matthew’s Hideaway, the LEGO themed room in Frankie’s Den. This room is dedicated to the memory of a young boy called Matthew Girard, who sadly lost his life to cancer in 2020. The artwork features a flying pirate ship, designed by Amber Armstrong, the Guernsey winner of the competition. Amber invented this pirate ship to safely transport premature babies and their families to Southampton hospital.

Competition Winners

The prize giving was presented by Resolution IT’s Jersey Managing Director, Dane Bryans.

The overall winner was Freya, year 5 at St Lawrence School. Freya invented the ‘Sharkoporter 3000’ and won an Xbox Series S, donated by PlainSail. Second place in the ‘Sea’ category went to Bonnie, year 3 at Trinity School. Bonnie invented the ‘Bonnix’, and won a £75 Amazon voucher, donated by Resolution IT.

First place in the ‘Air’ category went to Alexandra, year 6 at FCJ School. Alexandra invented the ‘Dome-Bird’, and won a £100 Sports Direct voucher, donated by Entrust. Second place in the ‘Air’ category went to Olly, year 5 at St Mary’s School. Olly invented the ‘Floshy’, and won a Mario Kart racetrack, donated by Resolution IT.

First place in the ‘Land’ category went to Raquel, year 4 at FCJ School. Raquel invented ‘The Future Launch 5000’, and won a Lego set, donated by Entrust. Second place in the ‘Land’ category went to Sanyukta, year 3 at JCP School. Sanyukta invented an ‘Eco-Friendly Self-Driving Concept Bus’, and won a £75 Amazon voucher, donated by Resolution IT.

Resolution IT also donated £500 to FCJ School for submitting the highest percentage of entries to the competition, relative to size.

Ms Lenzi, Headteacher at FCJ School, said: “The children have once again loved participating in this exciting competition. They were inspired by the concept to use their creative skills to design a form of transport for the future, so many wonderful ideas! We are extremely grateful to Resolution IT for not only offering our children this opportunity, but also to be named as the overall winning school for a second year!”

Dane Bryans said: “Firstly, a big thank you to all the children who submitted entries. The team and I thoroughly enjoyed going through each and every one, which took some time because of the sheer number we received. The effort and creativity on display were amazing, making it incredibly difficult to choose our final winners, who deserve massive congratulations! This event also wouldn’t have been possible without our extremely generous sponsors, PlainSail and Entrust.”

He added: “A further thank you to FCJ School, who kindly hosted our prize-giving ceremony and were once again very worthy winners of the £500 prize for the most entries. On a final note, I am so proud that we have been able to support the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation who do such great work.”

Sophie Campbell, Head of Client Strategy at PlainSail, said: “It is a privilege to be able to sponsor such an inclusive and creative competition. The number of entries submitted across the islands was truly impressive, and it’s wonderful to see Jersey following Guernsey’s strong lead in participation.

“We are also delighted that our sponsorship has not only secured great prizes for the winners but also supported PPBF in providing an Xbox and TV for families to use in Frankie’s Hideaway, and LEGO wall art for Matthew’s Hideaway.

“We look forward to continuing our support in the years to come and extend our thanks to Resolution IT and all the other sponsors for helping make this initiative a success for PPBF.”
