The Chamber of Commerce is launching a brand new ‘People and Planet Business of the Year Award’, to champion progress and emphasise the importance of valuing people and planet alongside profit.
Sponsored by The Little Green Energy Company the award will be presented at Chamber’s gala dinner on 14th November following its keynote speaker: broadcaster and retail expert, Mary Portas.
While renowned as the ‘queen of the high street,’ Mary is currently championing initiatives that call for a new way of doing business and Chamber supports this call for change.
The ‘People and Planet Business of the Year Award’ seeks to recognise organisations that have integrated genuine value changes into their core operations, making important changes to contribute to a greener future.
“This award is not about recognising those who have achieved perfection but is a celebration of the efforts local businesses are making to do better,” said Alice Gill (pictured), Director of the Chamber of Commerce.
“We want to shine a light on those who are encouraging and inspiring other companies to change their practices. Businesses that embrace looking after their community, their team, and the planet across their decision making will thrive. These are the companies that people will want to do business with and work for, so it’s not only the right thing to do, but it also makes good business sense.”
Managing Director of The Little Green Energy Company, Ben Le Huray said: “Playing our part to deliver on Guernsey’s ambitious renewable energy targets whilst providing a first-class client experience is at the heart of The Little Green Energy Company’s strategy. We know it’s our people that make the difference, and just as we have been first to market in bringing innovative, renewable energy systems to the island, we are proud to be the inaugural sponsor of the People & Planet Business of the Year Award. This award will shine a light on local businesses that are playing their part to lead our island community towards a more sustainable future.
“Little Green is in the privileged position of being able to assist local businesses on their own sustainability journeys. However, we know that it’s only by working collectively that our community will have the courage to do what it takes to ensure our island’s future. We are a community-focused business, and we want to ensure Guernsey is a place in which our grandchildren will thrive. Supporting this award is a small yet meaningful way for is to encourage investment in their futures.”
