Jersey Community Foundation has awarded the first tranche of CI Lottery funding in 2024 with £149,815 benefiting the Island’s art, science and sports sectors.

13 organisations, charities and voluntary groups have been awarded a total of £149,815 of Channel Islands Lottery funding in the first of two annual grant rounds administered by Jersey Community Foundation. CI Lottery funding is awarded twice a year, every May and November, to projects working across arts, culture and heritage; science and research; and sports and active lifestyles.

The funding comes from lottery ticket purchases in the Channel Islands and is an essential source of support that contributes significantly to the work of various charitable and voluntary organisations and groups. It provides resources for projects, programmes, services, infrastructure, research, equipment and other essential needs, helping charitable organisations to make a positive and lasting impact. JCF is pleased to share the full list of grant recipients for its first round of funding and hopes more organisations will come forward to apply for CI Lottery funding ahead of their second deadline on 04 October 2024.

Among those organisations that have received this first round of CI Lottery funding are:

  • Jersey Rugby Club was awarded £5,000 to help create more opportunities for engagement amongst disabled, elderly and young families on the Island. Specifically, the grant will be used for the provision of a lift to the upstairs clubhouse and viewing area.
  • The Moving Arts Collective was awarded £10,000 across four projects that work towards cultivating a vibrant and inclusive artistic community in Jersey, namely: ‘Lullaby Project’, ‘Vraic’, ‘She Rose: Dance, Landscape, and Language’ and ‘Black Earth pamphlet launch’. The Moving Arts Collective aims to intertwine art, culture, heritage, social justice and the environment. Through this programme of projects, they look to expand their network and forge strategic partnerships both locally and internationally.
  • Jersey Trees for Life (pictured) was awarded £4,895 to catalogue and identify the entire Arboretum collection at Val de la Mare. Using QGIS, they will generate an up-to-date map of the arboretum collections and make this publicly available via an interactive web-map. They will use the final database and corresponding map to improve public information and inform future conservation work within the arboretum.

Chief Executive Officer of JCF, Anna Terry, said: “Through our thematic approach to lottery funding, we seek to emphasise the value of organisations dedicated to uplifting, enriching and advancing our community.

“Arts, sports and scientific pursuits have the power to uplift us in times of stress, help us navigate challenges, enable self-expression and enhance our mental and physical wellbeing. They play a crucial role in the education and progress of our entire community. I extend my appreciation to our experienced volunteer Board and sector-specific advisors for their invaluable expertise and time dedicated to the grant allocation process. We hope that in sharing this list of grant recipients we inspire more charitable organisations to come forward and apply for funding by 04 October.”

Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, Deputy Kirsten Morel, said: “I am delighted to see financial support being given to our local art, science and sports sectors through the allocation of over £149,000 in CI Lottery funding. This funding not only recognises the significant contributions of 13 deserving organisations but also highlights the essential role that lottery ticket purchases play in empowering charitable and voluntary groups.

“By investing in local projects, programmes and infrastructure this funding ensures a positive and lasting impact on the lives of Islanders. I commend JCF for their dedication to fostering a thriving community and congratulate the grant recipients for their valuable work.”
