The Art Market exhibition

An extraordinary exhibition featuring the vibrant and diverse works of over 30 talented local artists will be displayed within two ground floor commercial units at Horizon, St Helier Waterfront for a three-week period from Saturday 13 July.

Renowned local artist Ian Rolls has brought the artists together to exhibit a stunning array of creativity and expression at Horizon South and East, overlooking Elizabeth Marina and the iconic ‘Sail’ sculpture on the Waterfront’s promenade.

Ian said: “This group exhibition has evolved to represent 31 of the finest and most intriguing visual artists currently working in Jersey, ranging from those with a lifetime’s experience, to emerging talents. My commitment to organising this exhibition began when the Jersey Development Company offered two large commercial units to showcase local artists’ work within the Horizon complex. These spaces have a charmingly raw aesthetic with concrete pillars, floors, block walls, and exposed black ducting, all illuminated by natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows.

“To maximise the display area, six large cubes have been constructed from pallet boards for 2D artwork, and metal trestle stands, and plywood/chipboard will be used for the 3D pieces. The pop-up exhibition highlights the collaboration between the Jersey Development Company and the Island’s artist community. JDC has been incredibly supportive, marking the beginning of a growing relationship that recognises the importance of the Creative Industries for Jersey’s future wellbeing”.

Lee Henry CEO of Jersey Development Company said: “While five of the twelve commercial units are currently sold or under offer, we are pleased to temporarily repurpose some of the remaining spaces for the benefit of the community and in particular, art and culture. Ian approached us with his idea and the need for artists space was reinforced at the recent Creative Industries workshop. We are delighted to support Ian in transforming these empty units into a vibrant pop-up art exhibition. This meanwhile use aligns with JDC’s focus on placemaking and creating sustainable communities. JDC’s ambition is to transform St. Helier’s Waterfront into an engaging and active destination where people want to live, work, and visit.”

The Art Market exhibition will be officially opened by the Connétable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft at 11am on Saturday 13 July. The exhibition will open daily from 10am – 5pm until Saturday 3 August and all exhibited artwork is available for purchase. Acorn will also be showcasing a range of upcycled creations.
