Actor, writer and producer Sally Phillips, known for her roles in the hit film series Bridget Jones Diary, and TV shows I’m Alan Partridge and Miranda, is coming to Jersey to host the prestigious IoD Jersey Director of the year awards 2024 on November 8th.

The Awards, made possible by sponsors Appleby, are the highlight of the business calendar on the island and celebrate Jersey’s most inspirational and ethical leaders.

Celebrity host Sally Phillips will be announcing the winners of ten prestigious categories, nominated by colleagues and peers.

Sally has appeared in some of the most popular and influential comedies of recent years. From the mischievous Travel Tavern receptionist of I’m Alan Partridge, the acerbic Finnish prime minister in Veep, to generally well-meaning friend in Miranda, she also co-wrote and co-starred in sketch show Smack the Pony – to name but a few! Alongside acting, she turned in a memorable performance in Taskmaster and regularly appears on QI.

Chair of IoD Jersey, Alex Ruddy, said the IoD committee is delighted to welcome Sally to the island. She said: “The IoD Jersey Awards are always a huge opportunity to recognise the best of our leaders in Jersey, but they are also a chance for all our members, guests, and nominees to network and enjoy a celebratory night out. Sally Phillips’s unique blend of wit and charm will guarantee a fantastic evening, and I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our sponsors for making this event possible.”

The theme of this year’s Awards evening is the ‘Enchanted forest’ and apart from entertainment with Sally Phillips, there will also be music, as well as ample opportunities to network at the venue, which is the Royal Jersey Showground.

This year the judging panel is being led by Lisa Springate, former IoD Chair and Head of Legal and Technical for Jersey Finance, who has selected an independent panel of six others. They are:

  • Heather MacCallum, former KPMG partner and now a non-executive director
  • Daragh McDermott, CEO, JT Group
  • Helen Ruelle, Director of Local Legal Services, Ogier
  • Phil Slatter, Founder and CEO, Reel Creative
  • Kevin Lemasney, Head of High Value Residency, Locate Jersey
  • Fiona Vacher, Executive Director, Jersey Childcare Trust

Nominations are now open to everyone, whether members of the IoD of not, and close on Friday 5th July.

You can apply yourself or recognise someone else’s achievements by nominating them via the simple online nomination form.

The 10 Award Categories are:

  • Director of the Year – Large Business (over £10 million turnover)
  • Director of the Year – SME Business (under £10 million turnover)
  • Family Business Director of the Year
  • Start-up Director of the Year
