Channel Eye has joined forces with Royston Guest, leading Business Growth Coach and CEO/Founder of Pathways Global, in our column, ‘Ask the Business Coach’.
If all roads lead to you, then it’s time to stop being so accessible. This is very different from being visible. Don’t become a critical dependency in your business.
Three key takeaways
- Be visible but don’t be freely accessible.
- Get individuals to bring the problem AND the solutions.
- Ask if the work brought to you is ‘client-ready’.
Episode timestamps
- [0.38] If all roads are leading to you, then it’s time to stop being so accessible. This is very different to being visible. Don’t become a critical dependency in your business. Instead, encourage delegation.
- [1.30] As a leader, it’s crucial to stop the flow further upstream. Have you unintentionally become the sole problem solver, the one with all the answers. Your role should be to guide individuals to bring both the problem and the solutions. By doing so, you’re not only developing critical thinking within your teams but also empowering them to be proactive problem-solvers.
- [3.10] Key tactics you can implement include getting your people to think for themselves by asking the following questions: What would you do if I wasn’t available to ask? Asking for work to be client-ready before it comes to you or asking how client-ready (as a %) is a particular piece of work and suggesting you only want to see it when it is X% ready. This will highlight the gap between what you think is client-ready and the individual’s thoughts.
