Taking off: Jersey Airport’s £42m regeneration

Jersey Airport is getting a £42million makeover, with arrivals and departures all moving into the main building.

Ports of Jersey have unveiled the details of their new all-in-one arrivals and departure terminal, with a new mezzanine floor for the security search and departure lounge, with arrivals and customs on the ground floor.

There’ll be escalators, lifts and stairs to the 2,300 square-metre departure area which passengers will head to after checking in on the ground-floor.

It will include an open plan shopping and dining area, as well as a passenger lounge overlooking the aircraft stands.

Subject to planning permission, the work will be done in stages, starting with the construction of four new departure gates, and the existing 1937 arrivals building will be demolished to comply with CAA rules about how near buildings are to the runway.

Group CEO for Ports of Jersey, Doug Bannister, said: “This is an ambitious and exciting project that ultimately will see the creation of a new airport that addresses our compliance requirements, provides a modern facility for our passengers and airline partners’ future requirements and strives to enhance the overall passenger journey experience.”

Future plans include a multi storey car park with direct access to the terminal building. For now though, existing car parks and drop off/pick up zones will stay as they are.

Ports of Jersey is funding the £42million development from its own commercial returns and not through government financial support.

Construction work is due to start in autumn 2018 and is set to take up to three years to complete. There’ll be public drop-in sessions in January to discuss the plans in more detail.
