Karen Ramsay has been announced as the new Chair of Isle of Man Crimestoppers, the local charity that provides access to the anonymous crime reporting service.

Her appointment comes ahead of a new drive by the organisation with the ambition of helping deliver ‘A safer Island. For everyone’, with actions being undertaken to enhance awareness of the service, broaden its engagement with the local community, and to attract support to enable it to do these things.

Karen Ramsay (pictured) said: “We have already started the planning process to deliver our new approach and this will become more apparent over the next few weeks and months.

“Our service is unique and guaranteed to protect your identity, whether you call us on 0800 555 111 or submit information via our anonymous online form.

“In all the years that the service has been running, no one has ever been identified after giving information. It is vital that we guarantee anonymity because if a person’s identity became known our reputation would be seriously damaged.

“As a registered Isle of Man charity we depend on developing strong partnerships with the Isle of Man Constabulary, Government departments, other third sector groups and the business community to help promote our work. We are also seeking to engage further with our diverse resident community.

“For example, we recognise that a number of residents do not have English as their first language. People can still provide information anonymously online, or using our translation service. Calls will be answered by someone who speaks English and the caller will just need to tell them which language they speak so that their information can then be recorded appropriately.”
