Longueville Manor has announced they are marking their 75th anniversary celebrations with a special scheme to plant 75 trees on their grounds.

Longueville Manor, which is part of the Relais & Châteaux hotel group, played host to the Relais & Châteaux Executive Committee, who were in Jersey to hold their quarterly board meeting.

The board is made up of delegates from all over the world and so it was a significant event for the hotel to welcome such a range of honoured guests. The visit was made even more momentous as Relais & Châteaux are also celebrating their own milestone of 70 years.

As part of the ongoing 75th  celebrations and with the Relais & Châteaux team over, Longueville took the opportunity to kick off their 75 tree planting mission by having Laurent Gardinier, President of Relais & Châteaux plant the very first tree, an English oak. Overall, the aim of the rewilding scheme is to plant 75 trees throughout the year, both to mark the anniversary and also to further Longueville’s commitment to the local environment and sustainability.

Since Sidney and Edith Lewis opened Longueville Manor Hotel in 1949, the grounds have played an integral part in the identity of the hotel. Longueville has always strived to maintain and add to the surrounding flora and fauna, with David Lewis, owner Malcolm Lewis’ son, taking up the helm of head groundskeeper and gardener. From encouraging pollinator friendly plant growth to maintaining a superb kitchen garden, Longueville has had a sharp focus on their sustainability in recent years, and after Storm Ciaran and the loss of so many trees in the surrounding areas, the 75 trees initiative seems especially fitting.

Longueville Manor owner Malcolm Lewis said: “It was an honour to have the President of Relais & Châteaux and the rest of the Executive Committee over in Jersey, and they enjoyed a successful few days with us at Longueville Manor. We wish to extend our thanks to Laurent for planting our very first tree in our 75 trees for 75 years scheme. Restoring and adding to the beautiful gardens and woodlands we have at the manor is a key priority for us, and this oak will be the first of many trees.

“We hope that the trees planted this year will grow and stand tall for many years to come. We were delighted for the Executive Committee to be here to take part and share in this meaningful moment, as we celebrate 75 successful years.”
