A special opportunity has arisen for those interested in making a film in Jersey, with a unique ‘Kino Jersey’ Workshop offering the chance to work with industry experts from Europe.

The course is open to 12 people, working in small groups or individually, aged 18 years and older. The workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with skills and experience. Throughout the week-long experience, participants will be taken through all the steps needed towards making their film.

An experienced team of film and festival professionals from the Off-Court Trouville Film Festival in France will be leading the workshop, allowing filmmakers to take their short films from concept to completion in a fun, supportive and collaborative environment.

At the end of the week, all films will be shown on the big screen of the Jersey Arts Centre on 25th May, as part of the 13th Parish International Film Festival, which is in its 4th year and takes place at the Jersey Arts Centre from 23rd to 26th May. Participants of the Kino course will be given full delegate access to the festival itself, which has a rich and varied programme of events and experiences, and of course, plenty of award-winning and acclaimed films!

Those wishing to take part in the Kino Workshop will need to be available Saturday 18th May to Thursday morning 23rd May.

The Kino Movement was founded in 1999 Montreal, Quebec, Canada by Christian Laurence and friends. It’s a film-making movement that advocates the production of short films on little to no budget, using small crews, and non-competitive collaboration. It has chapters over the world, especially in French-speaking countries and central Europe.

The festival’s Special Projects Co-Ordinator JooJ duQuemin said: “This is such an exciting and unique opportunity for anyone who has wished for their film to be taken from idea to the big screen as part of a real international film festival! With two successful Kino workshops in Jersey so far, many islanders have benefitted from the expertise of the Off-Court Trouville team, and we’re very grateful to be able to collaborate with them yet again.

“We want to highlight that the Channel Islands are a very special place for creativity, and full of inspirational locations for filming. With only 12 spaces, we encourage islanders to reserve their spot asap. It’s going to be something very special.”

Apply before 2nd May 2024. To apply for a space or for queries, contact Jooj duQuemin at jooj@13thparish.org.je
