This week, two Jersey hotels have a host of new teatime treats ready to celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week.
The pastry chef teams at the AA Five Star Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa and the AA Four Red Star L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa have been busy creating dozens of new additions for their afternoon tea menus, including a selection of vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free treats.
Executive Chef Nicolas Valmagna and his team at Grand Jersey have baked up the likes of orange polenta cake and blueberry and white chocolate cheesecake for their gluten-free cake selection, whilst red velvet sponge, chocolate opera and carrot cake are a delicious addition to the vegan menu.
Meanwhile, L’Horizon’s Executive Head Chef Andrew Soddy and his team have added in some extra local provenance to their traditional afternoon tea menu with a choice of tea cakes including La Mare apple mousse slice with Jersey Black Butter jelly, Jersey cream and passion fruit panna cotta and glazed Jersey strawberry tartlet.
For those who prefer a savoury tea selection, they’ve whipped up a vegetarian wild mushroom and truffle arancini ball with truffle mayonnaise, smoked mackerel rillette on toasted croute with pickled cucumber and spiced chicken and avocado tortilla.
Commenting on the new menus, Simon Miller, General Manager of Hand Picked Hotels Jersey, said: “Afternoon tea has been a one of the nation’s favourite traditions since the 1800s and the perfect mini-meal to see us through until dinner. Our pastry chef teams have really excelled themselves with these exciting additions to our menus and I’m sure our guests will agree they provide the perfect accompaniments for this English tradition.”
National Afternoon Tea Week runs from 14-20 August.
