Revealed: where Jersey’s wealthiest immigrants come from

The nationalities of Jersey’s richest immigrants have been published by the government.

78 ‘high value residents’ (HVR) moved to the island over the past five years. The vast majority, 64 of them, are British.

The rest are made up of three each from Ireland, France and Australia, two Russians, plus a German, a Dane and an Austrian.

In that time, the States say only one applicant didn’t make the grade after background checks were made by Locate Jersey, though because that information is demanded up front they never formally became an applicant for HVR status.

Applicants are checked against the Thomson Reuters World Check database, by the Jersey Financial Services Commission, Jersey Police and other searches which can include social media profiles and publicly available documents.

In a statement, the States said: “In addition to the checks carried out as part of the application process, ordinarily, applications are prepared on behalf of applicants, by legal or accountancy firms who also carry out due diligence as part of their take-on of the client.”
