Ashburton Investments has announced its sponsorship of a novel Guinness World Record attempt in Jersey on 23 September 2018, launching its involvement with Headway Jersey as a charity of choice for the year ahead.

Headway Jersey, the charity that provides vital support, services and information to people affected by brain injury, is organising the Guinness World Record attempt to create a human map of Jersey and in doing so to make the largest ever human image of a country. The current world record was set earlier this year in Myanmar, South East Asia, where 3466 people formed a map of their country.

Headway Jersey hopes to attract at least 5000 people to the Guinness World Record event at the Royal Jersey Showground on 23 September to help smash the Myanmar record and to enjoy a fun day out with friends and the whole family. The event will include live music, great food and activities for all ages. Gates will open from 10am to 4pm with the record attempt starting at 2pm.

Headway Jersey hopes the record breaking attempt will increase awareness and much-needed funding for the work it does for those with brain injuries, including accidental injury or trauma caused by tumours, stroke, haemorrhage and encephalitis.

Tony Wilshin, Managing Director of Ashburton Investments in Jersey said: “We’re proud to name Headway Jersey as a charity of choice for 2018 – 2019. Ashburton Investments is delighted to work on this exciting event with a charity that gives so much support to the island. We’re fully committed to Jersey and supporting the health and future well-being of the community”.

Ray Cooper, Chief Executive Officer at Headway Jerseysaid: “We’re really thrilled that Ashburton Investments has chosen us as a charity for the coming year. Their sponsorship and support for events such as the record attempt day is invaluable and helps us to achieve more for those living with brain trauma and to provide more information about the prevention of head injuries.”

Bryce Alford, Fundraising and Events Manager at Headway Jersey said: “We need as many people to come to the event on 23 September to help break the Guinness World Record being staged to raise much-needed funding for our work for people suffering brain trauma in Jersey. With the fantastic support from our main sponsor Ashburton Investments and our suppliers for the event, this will be a really exciting day out for people of all ages filled with great music, food and family fun. We ask that participants arrive at the Royal Jersey Showground no later than 12.45pm to ensure smooth guidance into the arena.”
