A team of volunteers from Jersey B&Q spent the day helping improve the outside creche space used by Brighter Futures at The Bridge.
As part of the home improvement retailer’s annual B&Q Community Days drive, a group of colleagues offered their DIY skills to spruce up the area; adding new fencing panels, a storage unit, creating a hand built flower bed and providing new plants. The team also made an orange play wall.
Almost 300 charities will get the same help across the country, with thousands of B&Q staff pitching in. Paul Crisp, Retail and Property Director at B&Q said: “We support the communities we work in and local charities all through the year with fundraising and product donations, but in September we give an extra push and get our hands dirty. When I visit our stores around the country there’s always a great buzz about the volunteering projects. As the biggest home improvement retailer in the British Isles, it’s important to me personally that we use our size and scale to give back.”
Brighter Futures is a local charity supporting parents, families and young people in Jersey. They provide keyworker support alongside a number of tree programmes and services to help support the parents and carers they meet.
Neville Oomrigar, Store Manager of B&Q Jersey said: “It’s great to be helping out Brighter Futures, the whole team love putting their practical skills to use and when it’s to support a good cause it’s even better. Fundraising weekends in store are always fun but seeing a project completed by the team gives a great sense of satisfaction.”
