Timed to coincide with the opening of Banksy’s first official solo exhibition in 14 years at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art, Jersey’s Private & Public Gallery will display a unique work by one of the world’s most popular and famous artists.

In what will be a first for Jersey art lovers and collectors  ‘I Wanted Wine Women & Song’ will also be the first time a unique work by Banksy has ever been displayed in the island.

Priced at half a million pounds it is the most expensive artwork ever to go on sale in the Channel Islands and will undoubtedly attract a wide array of international collectors.

Banksy’s ‘I wanted wine women and song. I got a drunk woman singing’ was made in 2005 using stencilled spray paint, emulsion and plywood and is unique piece which is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Pest Control.

The original text is by Simon Munnery from the famous pop song titled ‘Wine Women and Song’ which in turn has a long history in music dating back to a classical waltz by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss.

The piece was purchased by a Jersey based collector on 19th October 2018 via a broker in London from a private Swiss collector and is now for sale by Private Treaty and by Appointment Only.
