Ogier team to don shorts in aid of cancer charity

Ogier’s Guernsey team will soon be wearing shorts to work in support of a cancer charity’s sun safety campaign.

From 2 July the team is ‘supporting the short’ for Bermuda Shorts Week 2018, in aid of local cancer charity Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG).

Among those swapping work attire for the traditional Bermudan smart shorts, long socks, shirt, tie and blazer – an outfit dating back to the First World War when there was a shortage of clothing in Bermuda – will be Ogier partner Gavin Ferguson, who co-founded MUG, a charitable trust devoted to raising awareness of male cancers and supporting the men of Guernsey who are affected by prostate, bowel and testicular cancers.

Money raised from this year’s Bermuda Shorts Week will pay for the continued supply of sun cream dispensers in schools around Guernsey.

With higher skin cancer rates in the Channel Islands than the UK, MUG is determined to raise awareness and increase sun cream protection around the island.

Gavin, who heads Ogier’s Private Client and Trusts team in Guernsey and is MUG’s Guardian, said: “Educating the next generation now will ensure a healthier future for the island

“Bermuda Shorts Week reminds people to be more aware of their physical health. It’s really important to get any little niggle checked out. Early detection of cancer can make a big difference to treatment and health outcomes.”
