‘Our Crystal Year’ – Brighter Futures launches direct giving campaign to celebrate 15 years

Jersey-based charity Brighter Futures has launched a direct giving fundraising campaign, in a bid to attract monthly giving by individual donors.

2023 is the 15th year that the charity has been in operation, which marks its Crystal anniversary. Brighter Futures was founded in 2008 by Wendy Hurford MBE.

Brighter Futures supports more than 150 families per week, and it now costs £5,000 per year to support one family. To continue to provide this, the charity needs to vastly increase monthly donations. Brighter Futures does not charge for its services to ensure that the help it provides is as accessible as possible.

Fiona Brennan (pictured), Brighter Futures CEO, explained: “Brighter Futures needs to increase the amount of monthly income it receives via direct giving, as currently this only accounts for 4% of our annual income. We are asking individuals to support us by donating £5, £10, or £15 per month, or whatever they can afford, to increase our annual income. Businesses can also help us through payroll giving and we would be delighted to tell them more about this.”

Since its foundation in 2008, Brighter Futures has supported more than 3,100 families, benefitting over 12,400 Islanders.  It provides programmes facilitated by dedicated key workers that focus on creating the best relationship possible between children and their main carers. It also provides family support and second chance learning skills, as well as a creche facility. However, during 2022, a lack of funding, combined the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that
Brighter Futures had to maintain a waiting list for its services as the number of families referred rose beyond its capacity.

Further information about the campaign can be found here.
