IoD Jersey aims to meet the strategic priority of ensuring more directors on boards in Jersey are qualified and, with the assistance of corporate sponsor, Hawk Group, ensure training is more affordable for all.
IoD Jersey is offering an Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction course, taught in the island for the first time. The intensive course allows attendees to take all four modules of the flagship IoD Certificate, which gives directors the knowledge and awareness of the professional competencies needed to lead effectively.
The week of accelerated training, from Sunday 19th to Friday 24th March 2023, is being kindly sponsored by Hawk Group, who will also be offering one free place to someone who, as a qualified director, could accelerate the success of a Jersey business.
Chair of IoD Jersey, Natasha Egré, said the new course was in answer to member feedback: “Since I took over as Chair, we’ve surveyed members and I’ve been listening to their needs. One of the clear messages was that there were busy professionals, especially working parents, who wanted to take the IoD Certificate but found it prohibitive to travel off-island for each of the four modules.
“We need good leaders in our organisations, and this Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction goes some way to opening up the opportunities. We are so grateful to Hawk Group for their support and making training more accessible.”
The Accelerated Certificate in Company Direction combines online learning with an intensive week of face-to-face group workshops. Attendees will cover four modules: The Role of the Director and the Board, Finance for Non-Finance Directors, Strategy for Directors and Leadership for Directors. Participants will be required to pass exams for all four modules in order to be awarded the Certificate.
IoD Jersey Professional Development Committee chair, Mary Curtis, said it’s essential that everyone is able to undertake professional development for themselves, island businesses and to help grow Jersey’s economy and this new on-island option will help to diversify the learning opportunities: “Professionals can fast-track their director development with this five-day course. Practical learning enhanced by real-life scenarios and peer collaboration will give delegates the knowledge and skills that they can use immediately at board level for maximum impact. Covering governance, finance, strategy, and leadership, it provides the foundations for effective directors.”
Hawk Group’s sponsorship has made the training more cost effective for all attendees, while also allowing for one free place for an individual who may not be able to fund the course fee or who would value the support.
Kiri Cavill, Managing Director of Hawk, said they hoped by sponsoring this week of learning, it would contribute towards increasing the diversity of attendees and ultimately directors. “Ensuring that our company directors in Jersey are competent and effective leaders is in everyone’s interests.
“If you are keen to continue your professional development and give back to our dynamic and varied business community, then please apply for the sponsored place. It’s important we have directors from all walks of life leading our organisations effectively.”
