Following a thorough recruitment process, and a year as interim leader, Rob Sainsbury has been permanently appointed as the Chief Officer for Jersey’s Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) department.
Having held the role as interim Chief Officer for the department since December last year, Rob’s appointment has now been made permanent by the States Employment Board.
With over 27 years’ public service experience’ Rob is a leader, known and respected for delivering successful strategic and operational change across a broad spectrum of public services. He has operated at Director/Board level for the past eight years with great focus on system-wide collaboration and partnership working.
In his previous role he was responsible for the leadership and general management of Jersey General Hospital, the Island’s mental health provision, social care, and community services.
Rob began his career as a nurse in south Wales, before moving into managerial roles across the NHS and Local Governments. His core professional experience has focused on developing effective public services that integrate services to suit the needs to of the member of the public. He has lived in Jersey, with his police Sergeant husband, since 2018
Children and Education Minister, Deputy Inna Gardiner, said: “I would like to congratulate Rob on his well-deserved appointment. Rob said: “I’m very much looking forward to continuing to lead the department, working with colleagues across CYPES, Government and partners to build on the good work already commenced and delivered within our department.
