The Guernsey branch of the Institute of Directors has launched an inclusive forum for the next generation of leaders and directors.

The Next Gen Forum will bring together ambitious and aspiring individuals spanning different industries. It will offer networking events, practical workshops and other opportunities to build connections, with the aim of creating confident, commercial and resilient directors of the future.

The Forum will build on the Institute of Directors’ (IoD) established schemes which provide invaluable experience to sixth-form students, through the Future Leaders programmes such as Leadership Shadowing and the IoD Future Leaders Summit.

It is anticipated that the Forum will serve professionals in managerial roles who will move into director roles in the next two to five years.

The Forum will be led by a committee of eight members new members – Tom Zierer, Annaliese McGeoch, James Mroch, Holly Warburton, Euan Melrose, Sarah Lacy, Nicki Eastlake-Bent and Chris Leaman along with Karen Power and Sally Rochester from the main IoD committee. Tom Zierer (pictured) has been appointed as Chair and Annaliese McGeoch as Vice Chair.

The Next Gen Forum: L-R: James Mroch, Holly Warburton, Chris Leaman, Tom Zierer, Nicki Eastlake-Bent, Sarah Lacy, Euan Melrose and Annaliese McGeoch.

Tom Zierer said: “We identified an opportunity to offer the island’s future leaders more chances to network, upskill and develop their personal brand. We are delighted to bring this Forum to life for our peers and welcome feedback on how we can best support the business community.”

The Forum will be formally launched at an event in February 2023. Anyone interested can attend, meet the Guernsey IoD Next Gen Committee, network and learn more about the Forum. It will be the first of four quarterly events that will take place throughout the year.

Venue details and specific timings will be confirmed nearer the time, however, anyone can register their interest here.

Wendy Dorey, Chair of the IoD Committee commented: “With the business world and traditional working practices evolving at pace, it has never been more crucial to provide our future leaders with the tools and support they need to navigate this rapidly changing landscape.

“We hope the Forum will help our local businesses develop their talent pipeline and ensure their leadership succession plans are supported. We have a unique opportunity to equip our leaders of tomorrow with both the skills and connections they need to become better directors and build better businesses.”
