Highvern has answered the call from Art in the Frame, who are currently seeking new sewing machines to continue to offer their textile-based classes.

The local charity, currently based at The Harbour Gallery in St Aubin, received funding for five new sewing machines from Highvern allowing them to continue to teach students from local schools as well as offering practical lessons and support to the community.

Pat Robson, Chairman of Art in the Frame, said: “The pandemic period meant a lot of our equipment had to be put in storage and unfortunately is no longer in a useable condition. We are so grateful to Highvern for volunteering to help with the costs of replacing our machines, which are vital to keeping the love of textile art alive in the community.”

Art in the Frame welcomed New Zealand artist Alysn Midgelow Marsden into The Textile Centre on Tuesday 18th October. Alysn is an award-winning artist and teacher who uses textiles, wires, plastic and metal in her work as she explores the social stereotypes of textiles and stitch. She will be working with students and adults on a range of textile projects.

Pat continued: “Without the donation of these machines we simply wouldn’t be able to welcome these artists from around the globe and offer the high calibre lessons and inspiration which students are looking for on the island.”
