A consultant oncologist with experience of treating patients with cancer in many countries across the world has joined the oncology team at the Medical Specialist Group.
Dr Matthew Clark (pictured) joins from New Zealand where he was a consultant in medical oncology at Christchurch Hospital.
He trained at Imperial College London, completing his specialist oncology training in 2014, since when his career has taken him to the John Hopkins International Medical Centre in Singapore, to Shanghai in China, to Bermuda and to New Zealand, as well as some of London’s leading teaching hospitals.
Dr Clark specialises in breast cancer, lung cancer and predisposition genetics (the hereditary risk of getting cancer). In Singapore he set up a cancer predisposition genetics service, allowing screening and preventative action for high-risk patients and their affected family members.
He says, “I chose to specialise in oncology because of the opportunity to help people overcome cancer. I was also attracted by the constant learning required to keep up with innovations and developments in cancer treatment, and I was inspired by a distinguished mentor, Professor David Cunningham.”
Dr Steve Evans, chair of the medical directorate, adds, ‘It’s a pleasure to welcome Matthew to the island and to the MSG. He brings a wealth and depth of experience that will complement the expertise of Dr Peter Gomes and Dr Yokesh Manikyam in our oncology department.”
