The 46th annual Skipton Swimarathon had another successful year, with more than 2,000 swimmers turning out for the event to raise money for local charity Grow.

Donations poured in throughout the competition with the total currently sitting at £64,000.

Swimmers including schools, corporate organisations, family and friends swam a total distance of over 700km, the equivalent of crossing the Channel to Poole and back three times! The five-day event saw plenty of fun, belly flops and friendly rivalry take place.

The Swimarathon’s final total for 2022 is set to continue to rise as further donations are collected. Half of the fundraising total will go towards Grow Limited, as they look to finalise their £3 million redevelopment.

John Stuart, Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon Committee, said: “I am delighted by what a success this year has been. We were concerned that, after the pandemic years, there might be some apathy, but the opposite has been true – we have been astounded by the enthusiasm of all involved.

“Our thanks go out to Guernsey public for their wonderful support and generosity, and of course our thanks go to Skipton International for their marvellous sponsorship of the Swimarathon.”

Tracey Hutchins, Manager of Grow Limited, said: “We feel incredibly humbled by how the public have embraced our cause and dug deep to give back. This contribution from the Skipton Swimarathon will allow our charity to achieve so much more within our redevelopment, providing support for many years to come.”
