Five people are going to be tackling marathon distances in October to raise money for the Jersey Employment Trust and Acorn Enterprises.
Each day this week, Channel Eye is meeting one of the runners. Today we meet Alex Smyth.
Two ‘dad friends’ are going to raise funds for the Jersey Employment Trust by running the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon.
Salem Karadsheh and Alex Smyth will tackle the 26 miles on Sunday 2nd October.
For Alex (41), director at Oakbridge, it is his first marathon.
“I’ve been more of a weightlifter and occasional runner before this year but decided to challenge myself to complete a full marathon,’ he said. ‘The challenge will be to adjust mentally and physically to long-distance running and stay injury-free. I’m hoping to do it in four hours if training goes to plan.
“I have worked with JET in the past and have the utmost respect and admiration for what they do and the positive impact it makes in our local community. Everyone deserves to have opportunities to reach their full potential in life and JET helps make that happen.”
The pair have known each other for around five years and are now ‘dad friends’ as their daughters are friends in the same class at Beaulieu.
