Jersey “grossly underinvests” in cultural sector, warn arts chiefs

The heads of three arts organisations in Jersey are warning the sector faces a funding crisis which threatens their viability.

The chairs of ArtHouse Jersey, Jersey Arts Centre and Jersey Opera House have written to all candidates in this month’s General Election to warn of what they call “gross underinvestment” in the island’s culture.

They argue the arts play a vital role in education, healthcare, social cohesion, tourism, the environment and Jersey’s international profile.

Philip Hewat Jaboor, Andrew Goodyear and Pierre Horsfall CBE jointly call on those standing for election to talk about the issue at hustings and when speaking to the media.
