One of the UK’s Les Mills instructors was in Guernsey recently to champion classes from a global fitness phenomenon.
Lee Smith has been a trainer and presenter for the new fitness industry ‘Les Mills’ programme. He has led classes and trained instructors around the world and was in Guernsey to run a series of sessions at Kings Health Club.
“We were delighted to be able to bring Lee to Guernsey. He has taken the opportunity to meet with our own Les Mills instructors and the programmes have been extremely popular with our members for several years now. Lee is a leading exponent of the exercises which are designed to deliver ultimate results for our members”, said Group Club Manager, Sean Mills.
The ‘Les Mills’ fitness revolution started in 1968, by the four-time Olympian who started his first gym in Auckland, New Zealand. Now, 50 years on, classes fuse science, movement and music with the latest exercise trends and technology to deliver a workout experience that promises to change our outlook on exercise according to Lee, who has lead classes as far afield as Brazil and Amsterdam.
“All Les Mills classes focus on one goal: bringing people together to harness the power of group fitness and collective determination,” said Lee. “For class participants, the appeal is that the programmes deliver great results, create an incredible energy and stay up to date with the latest moves and music. Each of the Les Mills class programmes are updated every three months with completely new choreography, music and instructor training.”
Of the 22 classes designed as part of the Les Mills programme, Lee specialises in just a few. His most recent programme is a fully immersive workout experience that combines a 40-minute multi-peak cycling workout with a journey through digitally-created worlds called The Trip.
“With its iMax type cinema-scale screen and sound system, the facility you have in Guernsey is remarkable. The Trip sessions I have led have taken the motivation and energy output to the next level in this venue, the participants are burning serious calories”, said Lee.
The Les Mills Trip immersive sessions take place in Kings Health Club’s immersive studio featuring a floor-to-ceiling screen, which wraps around the participants, a cinema-style sound system combined with feature lighting, specialised UV cannons and strobe lighting making it unique to Guernsey according to Sean. “We have invested millions in new equipment and facilities as part of an on going and extensive refurbishment of Kings Health Club, which will continue in the next few years.”
“What we find particularly great about all the Les Mills classes is the inclusivity and fun they provide and we hope to bring more leading instructors from the UK across to Kings in the months to come,” said Sean.
