The UK Cyber Security Council has welcomed CERT.JE as a new member, fitting the continued commitment to working with other special interest groups in the cyber security space.

CERT.JE is responsible for promoting and improving cyber resilience across the Island of Jersey, enabling government, critical national infrastructure operators, business communities and citizens to reduce the risk and impact of major cyber incidents in Jersey.

As the Cyber Security Centre for Jersey, CERT.JE forms part of a global cyber emergency response network and represents the interests of Jersey internationally, helping to maintain and strengthen the Island’s international reputation as a safe place to live and to do business online.

The Council and CERT.JE will work together on key initiatives designed to further the work of both organisations, in order to respond to increasing cyber threats and enhance cooperation across the UK and Crown Dependencies.

Simon Hepburn, CEO of the UK Cyber Security Council, said: “We are delighted to welcome CERT.JE as a member of the Council as we move forward with our core work within the industry. Their decision to join the Council and to help strengthen our efforts in the cyber security space highlights the importance of what we are trying to achieve in our core work areas of standards and ethics, careers and learning and diversity and inclusion in cyber security.”

Matt Palmer (pictured), Director at CERT.JE, the Cyber Security Centre for Jersey, said: “As a small jurisdiction with a significant and well-regulated financial services industry we have unique challenges and opportunities that we can best respond to by working closely with UK and international partners.

“Nurturing our Island’s talent to develop a capable and ethical cyber security profession will be essential if we are to fight back effectively against the growing challenge of cyber crime and protect our economy and wellbeing from tomorrow’s threats.

“The creation of both the UK Cyber Security Council and Jersey’s CERT represents strong steps forward for both the cyber security profession and the defence of our communities, and we are looking forward to working together with our partners to lead on common challenges that impact the UK, the Crown Dependencies and the Island of Jersey.”
