The States of Alderney is encouraging the use of a new location-finding system designed to speed up response times in an emergency.
What3Words is an app which members of the public are encouraged to download and use if they need the emergency services.
Every 3m-square patch of the globe has been given a unique identifier made of three words – and that includes all of Alderney.
If you’re at the scene of an incident, you can use the free What3Words app to find the three words for your location which can be given to the emergency services over the phone. This avoids having to provide lengthy directions and speeds up response time.
The Alderney Operational Group, which includes Police, Fire, Ambulance, Harbour, Hospital and the Island Medical Centre is getting behind a Bailiwick-wide campaign to highlight the importance of being able to use What3Words.
What3Words can be downloaded onto your smart mobile phones or computers. For further information please see: www.What3Words.com or download direct to your phone from here.
Age Concern Alderney welcomes this initiative and is happy to provide more information about using What3Words. Please call Barbara Benfield on Tel: 07781 123637.
