The Rotary Club of Guernsey has bolstered aid efforts in Ukraine by donating £8,900 to the Wessex Rotary CIO appeal that helps charities in the affected areas.
The charities help to purchase goods, for example thermals, food, blankets, sleeping bags, first aid kits, dressings, hygiene products, toiletries and much more and also helps support labour forces and volunteers in the affected countries to fulfil their aims.
The Club is now focused on supporting frontline medical professionals helping those affected by the crisis through the International Rotary Fellowship of Healthcare Professionals, whose members are providing vital medical services to those impacted by the war across both Ukraine and its neighbouring countries.
With no overheads or consultant fees, every penny the Club can send to the Fellowship will be used by frontline Rotarians to provide essential care for those in Ukraine and refugees in Poland, Hungary and Moldova. The Club has already raised in excess of a further £6,000 to help with the medical supplies, services and equipment needed.
Simon Wood, Rotary Club of Guernsey member, says: “The main challenge facing those on the frontline is treating the many civilians injured by the conflict, many of whom are sadly children.
“The direct contact that the Fellowship has with those on the frontline paints a truly harrowing picture with the situation worsening day-by-day. Hospitals are at capacity, medical infrastructure has been destroyed and many patients are at risk of being left without access to medicine or care. Providing these vital funds can, literally, mean the difference between life and death and we’re committed to supporting those affected by the crisis however we can.”
