On Thursday 27th, January, the members of the Jersey Youth Parliament (JYP), along with young people and staff from the Jersey Youth Service, met with Lord Cashman CBE.
Lord Cashman had been visiting the Island to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and was able to take the opportunity to find out more about the work of the JYP and their three campaign areas.
They learnt about Lord Cashman’s life in the performing arts, being a co-founder of Stonewall, his journey into politics and his current work as an independent member of the House of Lords.
The Jersey Youth Parliament is an island-wide forum for young people to discuss, research and connect current issues to the States Assembly.
In a statement, the Jersey Youth Parliament said: “We were able to discuss the importance of universal human rights and their interdependent nature in relation to the work of the JYP who are exploring Mental Health, Climate Action and Education Reform.
“We were also reminded of the ongoing need to challenge discrimination of all forms to support all people. Drawing upon the varied experiences of our guest was inspiring and this opportunity helped the us to consider our work in a broader context.”
