Benest & Syvret have launched ‘Benest & Syvret Law Essay 2022’, a competition for A-level (or equivalent) students studying in Jersey.
The essay title for this year’s competition is ‘What does acting in a client’s best interests look like?’
Nina Benest, Partner of Benest & Syvret said in launching the competition: “As a law firm predominantly serving Jersey residents, we are pleased to be promoting an essay competition that is solely available to Jersey-based students.
“Essay competitions are an excellent way for students to hone their skills of research, analysis and argument in a subject outside of their core curricular studies. Entry into the competition will be an excellent opportunity for a student considering a career in law, accountancy or other profession or services to demonstrate their analytical skills.
“This year’s topic in particular directs students to consider how professionals act in the best interests of their clients in everything that they do.
“Competition for university places post-pandemic will be strong. Entry or even success in an essay competition will provide valuable content for a personal statement on a UCAS application and indeed at any university interview. Any university admission board will value a student who has been able to look outside of their immediate curriculum and become engaged in a subject which requires research and analysis outside of an area which the student is immediately familiar.”
Essays must be no more than 2,000 words and must demonstrate well evidenced research and reach a clear conclusion. Judges will be looking for referenced sources of information and data. All work must be exclusively the work of the student.
The deadline for submission of entries is 1st March 2022. Further details may be obtained here. A prize of £500 plus a two-week internship at Benest & Syvret during the summer holidays in 2022 is offered, together with one highly commended prize of £100. Each entrant will receive a certificate of participation. Prizes and certificates will be awarded by the end of March 2022. The winning essay and the highly commended essay will be published on the Benest & Syvret website.
