Did the Brexit vote take you by surprise? Had you given any thought about what it could mean for your business in the Channel Islands? How can you plan when you don’t have a final EU/UK agreement to work around? These are questions which one of the UK’s foremost experts on Brexit, Professor Anand Menon, will address at the Guernsey Literary Festival’s Business Breakfast.

Anand Menon is Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at Kings College London and has written and spoken extensively on the subject of Brexit and other political issues important to the UK.

At the heart of his talks will be the book Brexit and British Politics, which he co-authored and which was published in 2017. He will also speak later in the day at 1pm at the Festival Hub in Market Street.

Professor Menon directs the Economic and Social Research Council Initiative the UK in a Changing Europe and has held positions at Sciences Po, Columbia University and NYU. He has written on many aspects of contemporary Europe and is co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of the European Union (OUP, 2012).

As well as Brexit and British Politics, he is the author of Europe: The State of the Union (Atlantic Books 2008).  He has written for the Financial Times, Prospect, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Times and Le Monde, is a frequent commentator on national and international broadcast media and has made several radio documentaries on contemporary politics. He is a member of the Council of the European Council on Foreign Relations and an associate fellow of Chatham House.

The Business Breakfast and the Hub talk by Anand Menon is being sponsored by Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited, whose head of wealth management Colleen McHugh, says: “Butterfield is pleased to be supporting the talks on Brexit and British Politics given by Anand Menon, Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at Kings College, at The Guernsey Literary Festival.

“As an established writer and frequent commentator in national and international media on contemporary politics, it will be interesting to hear his views. I am sure he will be a fascinating addition to the festival, especially as Brexit remains a topic of great interest.”

Continental breakfast and a copy of Brexit & British Politics are included in the ticket price for the Business Breakfast which is priced at £25 and takes place from 8:00-9:30am on Friday 11th May. Tables of 10 or individual tickets can be booked for this event. Anand’s talk in the Festival Hub in the Market Square takes place from 13:00-14:00 and is priced at £6.

Tickets to all events are available on the website www.guernseyliteraryfestival.com
