Ogier acted as legal advisers to the Sandpiper Group, a long-standing client of the firm, on the acquisition of the Liberty Wharf retail complex, described by Sandpiper’s CEO Tony O’Neill as “the potential jewel in St Helier’s retail crown”, which completed on Wednesday.
The Ogier team led by partner Jonathan Hughes and Managing Associate Katharine Marshall advised on the Jersey property law aspects of this multi-million pound purchase, supported by senior associate Sarah Parish and associate Laura Shirreffs.
Partner Matthew Shaxson and his team including senior associate Oliver Richardson and associate Chloe Watson-Hill assisted Sandpiper on the corporate law elements of the deal.
The purchase marks another major acquisition for the Channel Islands’ leading retail group, which six months ago acquired the islands’ only official Apple product reseller iQ and more recently announced the introduction of the Morrisons supermarket brand to Jersey.
Katharine said: “We are delighted to have assisted the Sandpiper Group on its largest single acquisition to date as part of their continued growth strategy and commitment to the Island.”
Ogier’s Jersey property law team is the only one to be ranked in the top tier by leading independent legal directory Chambers and Partners.
