The 2021 Wetwheels Jersey True Grit Challenge has been postponed until March 20th 2022, to allow more time for people to prepare for the event.
The Challenge, supported by Ravenscroft as main sponsor, along with Carey Olsen, Seapower Marine and Ronez, was due to take place on Sunday 17th October but the organisers have listened to competitors and are going to delay by a few months.
Wetwheels Jersey Operations Director Dina Rogan said, “We’ve hit a perfect storm of events as the pandemic restrictions have been lifted, and this has had an impact on the number of teams able to take part.
“Following the huge success of the 2020 inaugural event, we have had a really good level of entries from individual runners, but not from teams. We know that other events held recently have also seen a downturn in team numbers and that’s possibly because so many challenges have been staged close to each other. So, we want to give our entrants some breathing space because while True Grit may be fun it’s also gruelling and the feedback we have had is that people need time to recover from other running events and train properly for next year. We look forward to welcoming them!
“This is our major fundraising event for the year and obviously we want to maximise the potential, so that we can give as may people as possible a trip out on Wetwheels, which is free for all passengers.”
The Wetwheels Jersey True Grit Challenge entices hardy Islanders to test their mettle around a specially constructed course at Ronez Quarry, St John.
Set in a unique and stunning location, the physical and unique 4.3km route involves tough terrain and challenging climbs, and runners can choose a course with or without obstacles.
The event raises funds and awareness for Wetwheels Jersey, a registered charity that provides the opportunity for all disabled people, including those with profound and complex disabilities, to access the sea in a safe, stimulating and rewarding way on board a specially built, fully accessible powerboat.
Entry is open to individuals and teams of up to three runners with entry fees as follows:
- Run only – Solo £25
- Obstacle – Solo £45
- Obstacle – Team of 3 £127.50
Places are limited so early registration is recommended but all those who registered for this year will have their places guaranteed for March.
